Yes, we did go to Palau Pef on the yacht. No issues with permits - talk with Raymond Lesmana of sail Indonesia. He's a great bloke and knows the current regs. For a small fee he'll do the paperwork for you.

The anchorage at Palau Pef requires local knowledge. It is fantastically sheltered, being in the middle of the Island!! (Pic attached). Approach the main jetty of the Echo Dive resort, and the resort staff (or Maya, the European Manager) will show you where to go.

The anchorage is deep, but very sheltered. Due to the tannin staining of the water, corals that are normally deep water corals grow in the shallows. If it is windy, you can dive in the maze of waterways INSIDE the main island, if calm on the outer reefs. Always something to do.

Palau Pef is difficult to get to by conventional transport, and therefore travel there is expensive. If you are in the area on a boat, you really MUST go an see it, the absolute best diving that remains anywhere.

Here is the resort website

If you go there, be sure to say hello to Maya for us, Matt and Jo from the yacht Island Time

Skookumchuck Rapids in British Columbia. No coordinates, you'll need a local dive boat.

I would say that of the places I've been Truk Lagoon (Chuuk) was really impressive. Not the best visibility and the good stuff is pretty deep but it's hard not to enjoy yourself diving through cargo holds filled with Japanese zeros, artillery shells, depth charges and all kinds of interesting artifacts or ships with intact tanks and artillery on deck and totally encrusted with coral.

As mentioned previously the Similan Islands of the Andaman coast of Thailand is great for visibility and diversity of marine life. Just be ready for some strong currents.

Thanks Matt. Good info.

Raja and PNG in general is on my bucket list having fixed most of the GBR and Coral Sea. Mow to organise that boat.

Cheers
