;-) Next time round. Visited once hoping to visit again. Great snorkeling too just off the bar. Some of which by 'accident' ;-)))

Cheers,

You can't be that old as I have been to two of them, although Raffles has now changed, they have even fitted air conditioning instead of the overhead fans. Apparently our cousins out west insist on it along with chilled beers

Reids is fine, and Shepeards well that can wait a while until Cairo calms down again.

Well, we have a great restaurant and bar facility in Long Island Bahamas as we just put in some moorings so we would love to have visitors!

My Kiwi friend Gordon Tronson makes sure a good bar is never far from his land dinghy.

The Frangipani on Bequia, especially on nights when there is a "jump up."

Re: Best Cruiser Bars Around the World ?

If Oslo is your destination, the best place to be during the summer months (May-August, opening hours "usually from 2 PM till late") is at The Ferry - real name Tjeldsundfergen III - an old car/passenger ferry which used to traffic Tjeldsundet and elsewhere in Lofoten from the 50s to the 80s. The pinnacle of their menu is (imo) their selection of megor German Weissbier (wheath beer) from Erdinger, St. Georgen Brau Keller, Paulaner etc. and sporadically the best fish soup in town which goes very well with their fine selection of Italian wine. Othervise, the food menu varies from fresh shrimp to sausage-inna-bun and other delicacies.

The atmosphere of The Ferry is easygoing, cosmopolitan and very friendly; it is common to get into interesting conversations with total strangers, both locals and travellers (the cruise ship harbour is close by). It is right in front of city hall, and close to Aker Brygge which guest harbour you'll probably use (website Velkommen til Herbern p Aker Brygge! ). But don't waste your time at the A.B. tourist trap! From "the Ferry perspective" we call it "the valley of shadows" since the sun disappears early in the afternoon. The Ferry is at "the sunny side" close by the interesting Akershus Castle, snug among several other veteran ships like the beautiful steamship (!) Børøysund (Norsk Veteranskibsklub - in norwegian) and Mohawk II, an interesting Bermuda-rigged ketch built in 1904 and owned by the Sea Scouts.

English language website here: English - Tjeldsundfergen

PS - Kids, dogs and smokers welcome!

How about Captain Jacks in Portobelo?

While you sit in his bar, looking out over the rainforest and the bay, you can drink a beer and peruse the Port Supply catalog. He will deliver anything straight from the US to this little 3rd world town! There is a good vibe, someone often playing music on the guitar, usual boaters telling lies and steady stream of backpackers heading to the San Blas to mix it up a little.
