Anyone Else Out There Like Eric Stone?

I've been listening to Eric Stone for a month now since I bought most of his hits on Amazon.com. I've got to say it...he's been beatin' out Buffett around here! Anyone else a fan???

Sorry Christian... I guess this is why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavours... My sixteen year old poke her nose outta her book when I played some of his stuff and said "is that like, supposed ta be Jimmy Buffett?" to which I replied "well, what do you think?"

Her answer; "He's trying to be Jimmy Buffett but he isn't. No one can be, except you know...!!"

Maybe he's a little bit too much country for us ; -)

You are right, he is not Buffet. He's better. I listen to Eric Stone alot. His first CD is the best "Songs for Sail". I get so tired of hearing Buffet over and over and over agin. Stone is fresh and he is a real sailor. You tell it in his lyrics. How long has it been since Jimmys been on a sailboat?

He's good but I cant say he's better than Buffet. I picked him up off Itunes and got his name out of Lats and Atts as I bet most of you did. Besides he is from Texas (good marks for that) he aint no Buffet but still good.

I agree. Not to take anything away from Buffet...he's great. But liking other, similar musicians is not exactly like cheating on him, now is it? An all-time favorite. But let's face it, he's a bit long in the tooth. Songs are old. He quit flying. he quit sailing. He milks the Parrothead thing, and the Margaritaville commercialism. And I don't agree that Stone is trying to copy Buffet. heck, Buffet is easy to copy, anyhow. It's not like he's a fantastic vocalist or a great guitarist now is it. He's a good songwriter, and speaks to something in us.

Hey, I don't blame him for his commercialism, and I do love his music. But there's always got to be room for fresh music, a new generation.

I mean, I still like the Rolling Stones, too. Wrinkles and all.....but that doesn't mean nobody else is as good, or will ever be as good.

Why would anyone want to drown out the silence of the wind with Buffet or Stone. When I'm sailing the music is a distraction, so I don't listen to anyone, Just the wind,
the ocean waves, ch 16, a gong here and there, a seagul, my own thoughts...beats waste-in away in Margaritaville.

Nice one, Avril! I got caught up in listening to music at sea a year or so back (playing with my "new toy" aka ipod). I've got back now to the real reason why I like being at sea......Tony

Try www.pandora.com - You can stream music and if you like something you can ask the stream to send more like it. Start with Eric Stone and the tool will suggest more stuff like him.

Unfortunately it is now blocked overseas...

I think I'll stick with CSN&Y...Southern Cross and Christopher Cross...Sailing. Those are the two that rob me of all common sense when buying a boat!

A shameless plug for my friend and neighbor in San Carlos Mexico. Mark is the man, he can play anything, and writes a lot of his own. Tropical life in Sea of Cortez, he is the real deal.

Mark Mulligan has a strong local and extended following. We have Eric and a few others here for get togethers, and I am always glad to say we have Mark here.

I love Eric's Reggae Guy and The Same Boat. He does get a bit country for me on some of them but in the reggae guy it is all in fun.

Another singer is Jim Morris... the lyrics of his songs are better than Stone's or Buffett but the voice is not as trained. Still they are probably my favorites for when in the car or boat. Here is a link.

Samples of Jim Morris' Music

Check out Sailboat Race, Floating Opera, Kicked back and Key Wasted, and Mike the muff diver all funny as hell
