Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

I was out photographing bald eagles last week. This one was enjoying breakfast.

Glad this thread is still alive. Nice to see everyone's photos.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

thank you jedi: I'm just a beginner & don't take many shots, just a point & shoot type of guy if I have the camera handy. Lost most of my shots in computer crash, but thinking of putting more effort into photography in near future. Posting a shot of some birds..not a great shot but thought the birds having a chat was interesting.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

wow: those are some great shots. I use a Sony DSC-707 that was given to me by a relative that was upgrading. Along with the camera I was given a book " a short course in Sony Cyber-shot DSC-707 " by author Dennis P. Curtin. Today after re-reading most of the post in this thread I decided to finally open the book & read some of the content.
The opening words are:

"A great photograph begins when you recognize a great scene or subject. But recognizing a great opportunity isn't enough to capture it; you also have to be prepared."

I'm pretty much limited in preparedness by my limited equipment, but have had some opportunities for a great shot . What if the attached thumbs were taken by someone with "wings" or by a well armed Jedi? Me thinks the results would have much more dramatic! use your imagination

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

ok, I know the previous photos should be tossed but for me an encounter with a wolf or two in the wild is not an every day happening so I keep the shots for a memento.

When not going beyond the capabilities of the camera the results are much better. A nice photo perhaps but not a prize winner without the photo shop editing and such photo construction techniques. But birds do seem to be a crowd pleaser

Whoooo knows?

Thumbs up Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

I like that shot. At first I thought the 5 objects in the center of photo were pine trees. the longer I looked I became thinking they were too symmetrical to be trees so I clicked the thumb and in the enlarged photo I see the objects were structures. In the enlarged photo I also noticed there is something that looks like scaffolding near the building. is there? Somewhere in this thread I read that could be distracting to the main focus of the subject matter and may be edited out for esthetic reasons. I personally prefer the non-edited version as It shows what is really there. I had never known of Angkor Wat so I googled it. Fascinating

When you say from the balloon do you mean this kind of balloon?

Yes, there is scaffolding. I did a lot of work on this image but I didn't take out the scaffolding.

The "balloon" is a tethered hot air balloon which goes up about 500 ft, just before dawn. It is the only way to get that shot.

I got a lot of interesting images from this place, but it was difficult shooting, the ruins themselves are colorless and lack contrast. The early and late in the day shots worked. The majority of the others I have not published but a few are on the blog.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

wings: thank you for posting your link, I made a quick browse & think you were right to include all the people in the shots gives a little more contrast and perspective to things.

I decided to try out shooting some smaller things today. More within range, but still trying to max the camera on the small end of things.
