Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

I've had my Canon 7D2 for about 18 months and this morning was the first time I have tried to shoot a HDR with it. I expected to do the my "usual" approach and set the camera up so that it will take 5 photos varying the exposure and with the camera's high frame rate, shoot HH. Then edit it in post.

When I went through the menus I discovered a HDR mode and it was all done in camera. The last exposure seemed a little long and I was not so steady, so maybe with a bit more effort it could be a bit sharper.

Anyway I'm pretty impressed by the straight out of the camera image. I chose the "art bold" effect for this

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Since I posted my 7D2 photo, might as well start a camera discussion...

My 7D2 is a very good camera, but it just doesn't gel with me. Ever since the Canon 5D came out, I've always had full frame cameras or at worse the 1.3x crop of the 1D3, so going back to a 1.6x crop just does not suit me. It screws up my wide lenses, 24-70L, 35L and the 40mm.... The worst thing with the 7D2 is the high ISO noise. I was shocked when I compared it to my 1Ds3, 5D2 and my now sold 1Dx...

I wanted the 7D2 because of the built in GPS (great when cruising) and a few other features. However what I really wanted is a camera exactly like the new Canon 5D4.... Damn... so expensive and cruising is finished. Bad release timing

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Yes, the crop sensor messes up the scene capture of the widest lenses, but on the telephoto end, it gives you more reach, which is great! I have both full-frame and crop sensor Nikon bodies. My 200-500mm f/5.6 becomes 300mm-750mm on the D7100. Great for wildlife photography.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

With the 100-400 the 7D2 is a good sports/nature camera. It does make me not miss the "sports" aspect of the 1Dx I sold. It's just not a camera for a boat where wide shooting is more important.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

We have the 7D2 as well as a 5D2. I could never find reason to upgrade the 5D2 with the 7D2 at hand. The advantage of having both is that it is like doubling your lenses.

I had to limit my cameras onboard collection. Aside from my 7D2 I also have a 100D although that lives in it's Ikelite housing, so I left the 1Ds3 & 5D2 at home. Last year for a few months I had my Phase one onboard but I returned as it was stupid to carry onboard for a number of reasons.

Some glimpses (lo-res only, sorry...on-board data limits + lack of know-how to achieve the expandable files...) from around Goldsmith Island in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
