Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Over the past twenty five years I have come to the realization that there is no camera I will be happy with. Started off with film stuff and Nikon Fbodies. The early digital stuff was kinda OK for low rez web stuff early on but the first digital camera with IQ I could live with was an early Sigma. Next was a Canon 1d2, then an early rebel, a 7d, a 1d4, and a 1dx was my last sdlr. Lately I have been using some mirrorless bodies. They tend to be smaller and more able to deal with the humidity, moisture, and water around boats. Really like my Oly EP in a housing and the new Nikon aw1 is small and fun to use even if it can not do splits like the Oly.

Of course the mirrorless bodies do not have the responsiveness of a true dslr and you really need something like a 220 Zen dome for consistent splits. As my friend Zee says, without pix it did not happen.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Here is some stuff from my Oly in the housing. Not really DSLR, but if you can live with slow response it is smaller and cheaper than a DSLR in a housing.

I find splits are the hardest thing to do no matter which camera you use

Most use a fisheye lens for splits, makes it easier to get above and below water line.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

I don't think a fisheye is necessary. It's probably using a dome housing port and a wide lens for those shots

Great image. I love the way you have captured the inverted reflection in the droplet. It has a beauty on many levels, aesthetically and scientific.

Both are upside down....it's called refraction. Same reason your boat hook looks bent when you stick part of it in the water.

The image is inverted due to reflection off a curved rear surface .
