Simply beautiful shots Coops! She has frozen the wave over the fish beautifully. Was it very late in the evening or early morning that the shot was taken?

I use a polarising filter when doing water shots. I can't say I have anything to be over proud of yet.
It is important to realise you have to rotate the filter until you get minimum reflection.
This can take a bit of time if you are trying to get on that great action shot.

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Anyone here got the Canon 6D?

I'm thinking about getting one as a travel/cruising camera. I like the idea that it has a built in GPS.

I tried an add on GPS but it just didn't "work" for me, it was too bulky and I never had it on when I probably wish I had later when reviewing the photos.

We have 5D Mk.2 and 7D… waiting for the 7D Mk.2 which might be the camera you're searching for…

For GPS, I use either an app on my iPhone, or a physical small GPS tracker that I hang around my neck (small like a key fob). They keep a track file at 1-second accuracy that you can merge with pictures using software like Lightroom. Works well.

I think the 7D Mk.2 might also get the GPS. It will be the top model with a crop sensor.

I have the Canon GP-E2 which works great on my 1Dx but that camera combo is too big and I supposedly have my 5D2 for travel. I know I can use the GP-E2 off camera and sync my 5D2 shots but I am too lazy to do that.

I only have full frame and really don't want to give that up. Maybe the 5D4 might come with GPS built in.

Wow Coops, your lady takes nice pics. Sometimes I wish my own photographic style was closer to hers.

We have full frame too, but do not feel giving anything up with the crop sensor: it is for a different type of photography. We use full frame for all landscape, portrait photography, but the crop sensor for most macro and wildlife.

For a vacation camera, a 7D with the 40mm pancake plus the 70-300L lens is as compact a travel kit as can be for us

I like shooting wide at times, usually and onboard shot to get the boat and a good amount of sails in the frame and that usually means FF & 24mm or even 16mm. Also I like the length of the 40mm & FF.

Yes, wide is important aboard. I somehow don't associate travel with being aboard anymore I always try to write for all readers, so let me expand this a bit for others who wonder what to buy;

For the crop sensor we have a 12-14mm Tokina and a 17-55mm Canon. Neither of these are weatherproofed. (the 17-55 is expensive but it is also very good, unlike the cheap 18-55mm kit lenses).

For the full sensor, we have 17-40L and the 24-105L Canon lenses which are both weatherproofed.

We also have the 8-15L fisheye zoom which works well on both.

But that leaves the pretty island with palm trees and the ulu with indians sailing past, for which you need a lens that is much longer than what many think will do. 300mm on a crop sensor becomes 480mm which is at the right side of that 400-500mm range that works so good for that.

The 70-300L is fantastic as it is a weatherproofed pro lens but also very small (for a 300mm). I can recommend it. For use aboard, I think you must have a circular polarizer and an UV filter for it, which is not funny as it is a different size as for most other lenses. Whenever there is a possibility of water spray, I have a filter on the lens in use. If not the polarizer, then it's the UV filter, which I only use for protection of the front element.

Oh my, I forgot to include a picture!!

Here's a southern lapwing, captured with a 7D with the 70-200L f/2.8

You need to get close to the bird, for which we started using camouflaged clothes.
