Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

@hoppy I think I will soon correct that problem and add the pancake. How is it's AF?

The focus is not the fastest, but it is quiet and the lens is sharp enough

I just decided to update my CPS account to add my 1Dx & 40mm and they upgraded me to Platinum level

Now here you can see the negative of the 70-300mm on the 7D : noise. It was just too dark and I never thought of the pop-up flash before it was too late

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

s/v Jedi, great photos.

I have a Nikon d300s that I use mostly for concerts, so I'll need to add some new lenses before I get out there. Right now have a 50 f1.4, 85 f1.8, and the 55-200 vr. Hope to add a longer zoom and a wide angle.

This will give us 70-800mm telephoto plus macro... nice
No good, you have to start over with Primes and NEVER use extenders!

I wish I had a 400mm f/2.8 until I see the size and weight... I had a 500mm aboard once and after mounting it to my camera, I took it off again; it's just too big and heavy.

p.s. the extenders are so good now that they are being integrated with big lenses now. Most of the professional sports photographers use them and I'm sure with the new firmware for the 1Dx many photogs will be buying these.

+1 on the thread Jedi. I feel your passion for macro, bugs are what I like to shoot also. I'm a Nikon guy because they're the best (not really), the best photographers shoot them (my mother had them), and they're glass is the best (mom's lenses are free to me, and free is best. Right?).

Seriously, I wanted a 5D (original) but wound up with Nikon because we are a Nikon family. Learned to shoot on a D90 and have no regrets.

Now shoot with a D700, 24 2.8, 35 f2 (love), 50 1.4, 85 1.4 (did I mention I do primes?), 105 2.8 micro (fave. Bugs, dude). I usually bring just the 105 and the 35.

Also, kudos to the poster who wrote about megapixels, lenses, and light. Light is king.

Rebel brought up the G12, so here's my experience with it. Great images (it's a Canon). Love the ability in a (sort of) compact for full manual control. Menu system makes my brain sad. Oh, and buggy software on mine. Buggy, buggy, buggy. Mom has the S95, much better camera.

Again, great thread!

Awesome! The little bird on the vine has the most stunning red eyes. Did you use fill flash on that shot?

It is a Fasciated Antshrike, which is not common. The bird was about 10 feet from the lens, which was the 100-400L on a 7D body. The picture exposure:

focal length: 370mm (592mm in 35mm)
aperture: f/5.6
exposure time: 1/320s
ISO: 3200
Flash fired: No
dimensions: 2,304x3,456 pixels (after cropping, almost 8 Megapixels)

So no flash but high ISO. Pictures like these show that the current 7D ain't that bad in low light as long as you dare to bring up the ISO and counter the noise in post-processing.

Here is another capture of the bird (12 Megapixels):

ciao!
Nick.
