Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
I cannot remember all the years. My ex-wife counted all the cars I had owned during our marriage and she came to a total of 100 and something. But those are, or were the cars I remember best. The finest cars for driving were the Triumph 2000, the 3,8 Mk II, The Lancia Gamma Coupe and the NSU RO80.
The Toronado was indeed a monster of a car. He was owned by a famous bulbgrower and his son drove the car against the wall. I bought it from the father and through a US car Dealer in Soest I got a bumper and a wheelguard. The mileage was terrible - something like 10 miles to the gallon. I sold it not long after to an advertisement agency.
Today I have no more use for cars, but I still like Aston Martin and Jaguar.

Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
I forgot one that I had for 5 years: 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, 500 cu. in. 400 HP, 550 ft/lbs torque. Was fun squealing the front tires when there were almost no other front wheel drives. It got 0 MPG and weighed 100,000 lbs. Also had 63 Jeep Wagoneer. Learned to drive in my moms 64 Corvair. Had a 71 Plymouth something or other and a 66 Bonneville. 2nd car was a Mercury Capri. Remember them? Got stuck in the sand alongside Tampa Bay in my sisters Dodge Dart the first day I got my license. Those were the days.

Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
First Toronado I ever saw was painted metallic tangerine orange. It was in the Eastern Airlines lobby at Washingto National, Christmas 1966. A front wheel drive legend.

First car I ever had was an old 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190D. After that I rode motorcycles a lot including BMW R-75. Now I have a Russian military Ural and a Jeep.

Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
First car I ever owned was a classic 1959 Jaguar MKIX saloon. This was back in '72 when I was a second year student at UVa. Then many years later, I bought a cherry one-owner, 36k mile 1970 Jaguar E-type convertible. A year or so after that, I added a 1967 Jaguar 420 saloon to the E-type.
I sold the Jags to buy the sailboat. My wife didn't enjoy working on the cars like I did, and she loves sailing, so that was a great compromise.
As you can tell, I'm have an affinity for old jaguars!

Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
Sold my replica Jag 1937 SS100 (custom factory built frame and body with small block chevy).
If anybody wants to help fund fixing my new boat I still need to sell my Ferrari replica (factory built 1962 250 GTO replica, built on a 280Z chassis with a 350 ci crate motor with 5 speed manual transmission).
It's nearly perfect, time for a 5th gear synchroniser and that's all I can think of. This is one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. I don't have pix but you can google PJ's auto world, click on imports, and scroll down to 1962 Alpha GT. Their pix don't do it justice.
Also sold most of the motorcycles, kept a 1989 Honda GB500 roadracer for living room sculpture, if I ever have a living room again.
It's amazing what we sacrifice for our boats.

Re: Any classic car enthusiasts on board?
I don't own any cars anymore, but here's the car that I miss the most, the blue & green 914. I've had about 75 cars and I'm only in my 40's. The least reliable and the most difficult to maintain of the bunch. It was never a nice car, but damn it was faster than it ever should have been. We won a lot together.
That red car was 5 classes faster than me and it took him 6 laps to get away that day. That was a good day.
