I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here. The link is about the movie "Life of Pi", a very successful movie based on an even more successful book. I mentioned this earlier and how Steve Callahan had been a consultant to Ang Lee as is pointed out. I'm sure many in the general population have not read "Adrift", it had a very narrow market like most sailing books. My contention was most people on this forum have probably at least heard of it if not read it, and that's to whom you have been preaching.

I do not see it being based on that book either, and it looks like the author of the story does not as well.

"All Is Lost is written and directed by J. C. Chandor, following his 2011 feature film debut Margin Call. During his time commuting from Providence, Rhode Island to New York, Chandor developed the idea for All Is Lost.[6] After meeting Robert Redford at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival where Margin Call premiered, Chandor asked the veteran actor to be in the film. On February 9, 2012, Redford's casting was confirmed for All Is Lost as its only cast member.[7] In addition to there being only one actor in the film, Redford also stated that the film has no dialogue, however there are a few spoken lines.[8] Because of these aspects, the shooting script was only 31 pages long.[6]"

Many still believe as I do that the movie was based on the book Adrift. This from the article I posted earlier:

Director Chandor is no stranger to disaster films. His 2011 effort ‘Margin Call’ was one of the best films of that year and featured a thinly veiled depiction of the Lehman Brothers collapse during the 2008 financial crisis. This time, he’s crafted what seems to be an unofficial adaptation of the book ‘Adrift: Seventy Six Days Lost at Sea’, which chronicled the story of Steven Callahan, a man who found himself in an almost identical real-life plot on the Atlantic Ocean in in 1981. The parallels are so striking between the two works that I was curious why this wasn’t a straight-up adaptation.

Skimming through the book earlier today reading about the solar stills Callahan had on board I came across this line in the book:

" I have lost all.........but my past, my friends, and the shirt on my back."

An unofficial adaptation (of the book) seems to be a good way to describe the movie.

The reason I keep bringing up the book is because so many folks were disappointed with the movie. The book on the other hand was excellent, very similar, but very good and a worthwhile read. (And) There is lots to be learned about survival at sea from the book.

Has anyone heard about the sequel? I think it is called "All is Upside-Down but Not Lost." It's Robert Redford and a beautiful woman on a multihull. I think they plan to have some explosions and pirates along with big waves.

We finally saw the movie on DVD via Netflicks. Glad we waited and didn't waste any money on it.

One of the top ten worst movies we've ever seen... we lost count of the ridiculousness of the whole thing, and how poorly the entire movie was done. 10 million total budget with I would assume 9.99 million going towards Redford's lame acting (like a confused idiot).

Wow! I didn't particulary think it was good, but I certainly didn't think it was 'that' bad. Have you seen many movies Lol.

I'd be interested in hearing why you think the acting was "lame". Maybe the script called for him to come across as a confused idiot, in which case it would have been superb acting. What I'm saying is don't confuse the acting with the role.

Any actor will tell you that playing a part with essentially no dialogue requires a lot of skill, and many critics felt he gave a performance of a lifetime.

I can give you one example. You can observe when he is on the top of the mast supposed to look out and see a storm, that he is faking it. Glossy unfocused eyes. Muggin'.

Why? Because RR doesn't act that much anymore and has lost the skills.
