Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Maybe his wife of many years and all three of his beloved children were killed in a car crash and he "went off the deep end" in an un-prepared boat to sail off and not come back. Maybe in his mind " All was Lost" before he ever left the dock.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Maybe his movie career had hit the wall, only one job in six years, and he was willing to prostitute himself for beer and bimbos....

This makes the most sense of all! His emotions were flat the whole time. I'd do the same but my boat would be well prepared.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Dumbest movie I ever saw. Dozed off a couple off times.

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Watched it a few nights ago... I'm relatively new to owning a sailboat, but shaving when he should've been taking in the sails, really! When she gets like that in the western basin of Erie, I'll be taking them in and heading for a berth.... not that he had that option, but still, I thought that even most of us CF sailors would have shaved and had a few stiff drinks afterwards.

os love redford, Jeremiah K=Johnson is one of my favourites, Mountainmen as well (not redford)

I say the letter was for his closure. He didn't mail it to anyone. He threw it overboard. If you threw a note in a bottle it would be "addressed" to anyone that found it. Not anyone specific.

Just guessing that your boat is prepared right now. Maybe his boat was perfectly well prepared......for day sailing in the bay!! But he sailed off with a death wish, like suicide by cop but with the "big blue ocean". And yes the no talking and flat emotions fit perfectly. Seemingly unable to concentrate on critical things. Shaving!!!

Taken in this context, it does seem to me like a very fine movie.

Andy

Re: ALL IS LOST: The Movie

Anybody seen the other movie, "Tracks"? The book is one of my all time favorites. Good reviews for both.
