Airconditioning for a 20 Ft. Pontoon with half enclosure

Hello All,

My name is Chuck and I just joined your forum. I would like to know the correct and most efficient way to install Airconditioning in my 20 foot pontoon in which I installed a half enclosure.

First, welcome to Cruisers Forum Chuckels. Second, you will need a generator to power the airconditioning. Third, all in it will probably cost more to install ac than you have in the boat. Perhaps a twelve volt fan will do.

What type of generator and portable air conditioning would you recommend. Cost is not my concern. I read about the Honda 2000 generator. How many BTU's will I need for 20 foot half enclosure?

I suppose you could use a portable aircooled generator. You would also need to use an air cooled ac unit. My advice would be to go to Walmart and buy the smallest window shaker they have and get a generator big enough to power it.

A honda 2000 and a cheap window a/c from walmart. you might need a "soft start" to keep the max load on the genny down. I've seen several people do it on the lake here.

Try to insulation your enclosure as much as possible, maybe even a double door entry, otherwise all the cooling just goes to the outside
