A cruising video I shot in BVI and Puerto Rico

I shot this in May 2015 in BVI and PR with an Olympus OMD E-M5 and a GoPro. Hope you enjoy, I had fun shooting it.

Thanks! I only just started learning how to shoot and edit videos a couple months ago.

I watched it on my 65" Mitsubishi and it looked stunning! I really enjoyed the soundtrack as well, whimsical and intriguing!

I think you have a real talent for this, would love to see more videos from you in the future!

Great video. Thanks for sharing.
You can use iMovie (on Mac) for editing, adding text/voice audio to your video. Its really easy to use.

Nice punchy film. I especially liked the birdy parts.
The bit I recognised as sailing was the bruised toes.

Socaldmax, I will definitely make more videos. We are doing the Med this year and I plan to make a video for that.

Karle, I use Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and sound mixing. I'm sure iMovie is good, I know a lot of people who use it, but I like the Adobe workflow.

Thanks again, everyone, for watching and for your feedback. I really appreciate it!

Very nicely done. I've done a couple of videos, including a sailing one, but they're not as good as this. Including a mix of close-ups and more panoramic shots is good. A beginner mistake is to pan the camera and/or zoom in/out. I'm surprised you haven't been doing this for longer.

I'm so jealous you're going through the Med! I lived in Sicily as a teenage boy 14-15 yrs old, Italian women are so beautiful I fell in love about 12 times a day, not to mention picked up an appreciation for good cuisine! I was also in Venice, Florence and Rome for 2 weeks in 2001 for my honeymoon. We must have gained 15 lbs on that trip! Be careful, Italians love to take travelers home and stuff them full of food!

Actually it seems like most of the countries in the Med have fantastic cuisine, in addition to a rich history.

I heard about some software that automatically makes a movie for you, somehow it determines the interesting scenes from all of your footage and stitches it all together into a dynamic looking video. You did a great job on your own, but for someone like me who isn't talented at editing, I need something like that to keep from making a video that cures insomnia. LOL

Re: A cruising video I shot in BVI and Puerto Rico

I found the software, it's called Magix Fastcut. There was an initial free period, but I think I missed it, it's $50 now. I saw some demo footage and it was pretty impressive, but it seemed geared toward fast paced action footage. Or perhaps those were just the examples. Anyways, here's hope for us talentless folks! LOL I've got 2 HD camcorders, 4 waterproof action cams plus a dustproof action cam, but haven't done anything noteworthy yet!

MAGIX Fastcut ? edit action cam videos

You can also get the gopro editor for free. I haven't used it too much, but it looks OK.

Budawang, as far as the rookie mistakes I hopefully avoided: I took like 4 online courses on video editing, visual storytelling, cinematography and color grading. I've also been paying close attention to everything I see on TV.

Here are the basic things I've learned:
- hold the camera as steady as possible
- if you think you need 5 seconds of video, take 15
- get close
- don't zoom during shooting, unless you plan to edit it out later
- use all manual settings, focus, ISO, shutter, aperture, all of it, all manual, all the time
- follow the rule of thirds unless you have a really compelling reason not to

When you watch the pros work, they follow the rules MOST of the time so that when they break them, it has a big impact.

There are tons of free tips videos here: https://vimeo.com/videoschool/

But I paid for some, too. Check out http://udemy.com (join the email list and wait for a sale, there's always a sale) and then my premium vimeo membership also included some courses that aren't available for free members.
