A CF audio and e-book catalog?

How about a catalogue on CF ofsources of available audio and ebooks of interest to cruisers?
Nowadays handy tablets stuffed with e-books are replacing the piles of mouldy paperbacks in the forepeak and audiobooks keep watchers awake during the night. A catalog would provide a one-stop reference to source books of nautical interest that are avaiable on line.
It could be a wiki type of platform where CF'ers could supply E&A-book source refernces and also grade and review thebooks. It might include sections for classic and modern account of voyages and how-to manuals and educational and technical guides, also blogs.
I must confess to a vested interest in this. Not only would I love to re-read some of those great classics on my Kindle but would also like others to enjoy my modest efforts at story-telling on theirs!

Re: A CF audio and e-book catalog?

There is a section of Cruiser's Forum for downloads, but I believe that is a purely practical section. I THINK you are talking about recreational resources?

I nominate the following podcasts:
  • On The Wind
  • Sailing Stories
  • Ocean Sailing Podcast
  • The Adventure Sports Podcast
  • The Sailing Podcast
  • Slow Boat to Cuba (the interviewer needs to listen more, but the guests are amazing)
  • Boat Radio
  • Science (AAAS)
  • BBC World Service (Elements, 50 Things, etc)
  • Outside Podcast
  • The Dirtbag Diaries

I nominate the following authors:
  • Nigel Calder
  • Beth Leonard
  • Evans Starzinger
  • Miles Smeeton (Beryl Smeeton is my role model, as is their relationship)
  • Lin and Larry Pardey

I nominate looking up the following topics on Kindle Unlimited or similar: related to your hobbies, how to fix things, swimming, diving, snorkeling, surfing, living on a boat, travel guides, botanical guides, mushroom guides, foraging guides, history books for the area, language learning for the area, animal guides, emergency medicine references, geology, marine life, climbing, hiking, fishing, hunting, carving, photography, navigation.

Re: A CF audio and e-book catalog?

Sorry I didn't follow up on your post, I have been busy finishing "Desperate Deliveries", see below.

I like your author selections, several of them are in my hardcopy library!

My idea is to create a wiki type list or catalogue on CF of links to ebooks and audio book sources for specific titles relating to cruising; accounts of voyages, how-to and technical, maybe fiction, etc. where one can easily download the desired book.

It didn't seem to generate much interest however!

When I have time and a usable connection I will find some sources for my favourites and start a pilot scheme to see if it will fly.
