Re: 70 knots!

Pretty breezy in the North Sea two days ago, 70 kts and some horrible seas.
Really odd, yesterday evening, from 1800 to 2000, the barometer dropped from 978 to 970, and the wind never got much beyond 25kts, I was expecting to get a real pasting, so pleasantly surprised. (this is on the work boat).
Now tied up in Dundee, a real pretty town, hopefully here for the week.

Its the "Discovery", of the ill fated Scot expedition.
Yep, worth a visit, even at £15, not allowed to spend money on grog while away, so I'll spend it on educating meself.

True. Hurricane Sandy caught us, but we had good shelter and only damage was a few chaffed lines. But Bounty went down just a couple of hundred miles from us with the loss of 2 lives.

Vic

PS. We snuck out of Brizzy just before xmas and are at anchor in Lake Macquarie NSW. It's pissing down and gusting about 20.

Do you put out fender boards? I've used them exactly once when the dock was sheltered but there was a lot of water sloshing about giving a bit of a vertical component to the situation.

I've noticed that the wind goes from a howl to a sort of rumble around the 45 knot mark in the open water...what it would sound like overhead in a sheltered valley I have no idea...probably like a train yard.
