IF you see a marina full of Dutch flags, go there, the research has been done.

Cruising guidebooks. Then CruisersNet in the territory they cover. Then Marinas.com.

Re: What Is your Favorite Source For Locating & Researching Marinas?

Since we found Active Captain, we stopped bothering with other sources.

We have yet to find a marina in the USA that isn't on the site (it may be limited to name, address & phone number if no one has commented on it).

There is some coverage outside the USA but it gets sketchy based on if someone has reported the marina.

The other sources all seem to a large percentage of the marinas and often don't have basic information like cost (with active captain, it does rely on someone entering it but we find it far more likely that the info is there).

Marina web sites are often of little use as they are marketing tools. It's often funny to try and find the beautiful pictures they show in real life because when you show up, it's often unbelievable that it's the same place. They are also often very lacking in basic information for transients.

Looking for nice Reasonable Marinas in North Carolina more inland For living aboard

So far North Carolina is the only place that is starting to truly appeal to me In my thoughts of moving from Minnesota. Probably due to the fact that it's still green. Although I don't know much about South Carolina compared to North Carolina. Let me know if anybody has thoughts re NC vs SC.

Re: What Is your Favorite Source For Locating & Researching Marinas?

There's definitely a climate difference between northern NC and southern SC. Some friends were rather surprised to have snow on deck when wintering in New Bern, NC, though it is unusual. The sailing is much better on NC's sounds and bays around the Oriental area. There is nothing like that in coastal SC. If you're more into power, both have interesting stretches of ICW cruising and exploration. I think the food is much better in SC for some reason. Charleston is one of the best eating out cities on the ICW. Both have gnats and other bugs. NC is probably somewhat more prone to direct hurricane hits than is most of SC. The area around Beaufort, NC, is hurricane alley. I believe boat property tax is much lower in NC, though some coastal counties in SC lowered their taxes on boats in recent years. You will have to research other taxes to see how they fit with your situation

Re: What Is your Favorite Source For Locating & Researching Marinas?

Thank you For your reply about North Carolina versus South Carolina. I like the saying you have at the bottom of your reply some people are so poor all they have is money. There is a lot of truth to that! Do you currently dock in New Jersey I was looking at your forum? I'm trying to figure out what I will do for work when I move I guess I just have to have to have faith it will all work out.
