Looking for Mooring Long Island Sound NY or CT Waterfront

I am currently docked at North Shore Long Island Sound and planning to move my boat on Westchester or CT Long Island Sound, looking for mooring but not looking to join yacht club, does anybody know town docks or marinas with moorings available for non residents? I am a Manhattan resident.

Hi Natalie,
Just said hello on your other thread and saw this.
Understand that you are looking to move boat away from LI side to West./Ct. but thought
I would advise for your consideration if option to stay on LI side.
Our town marina is Steppingstone Marina in Great Neck just west of Manhasset Bay
is set on a lovely park with young staff, great attitudes and happy to welcome
non-residents with mooring rates that i understand are about half of going rates.
Port Washington branch, Great Neck station is 22 minutes express/35 minutes local from Penn station running often including every half hour on weekends.

Hey Hugo;
Thanks for your suggestions. In August I spent my vacation at Mt Sinai Harbor, and this harbor is right on the Sound, sailing was great over there. I want to be on Sound pass Execution Rock and right on the Sound. I really want to go to Mt Sinai but traffic will kill me. I prefer driving to train.

OK Natalie understand, our loss here on LI.
Yes love Mt Sinai, in there often as have family close by, used to anchor but
always an adventure so now on mooring or anchor in Port. Jeff.
There are a number of places on the West./Ct. side that are right on the sound
but many pretty much exposed.
Suggest you give Joe Russo, harbormaster at Mamaroneck a call 914 777 7744
if he can't help ask about options up the coast. Also this time of year he will most
likely be fine with you docking to take a look around at dock near ramp at end of east harbor or on floating dock in west harbor.

Thanks for the information. I am the one at marina who drives from the city everybody takes train.
Hugo, I will certainly call on Monday, I prefer mooring which is right on the sound in case of coming storm always can move my boat to the safer marina. I mostly go on day sail it is easy to be right on the Sound. I would like to hear your thoughts as you are in this area.
I am not that experienced sailor and still on the learning stage.

Pretty hard escaping horrible traffic on West./Ct. coast as well, but assuming you are familiar.
Moorings outside Mamaroneck are right on the sound, actually seems many or even most mooring fields up that way are right on the sound and very exposed especially from south and southwest weather.
Actually a protected mooring would be prefered in heavy weather as to
many hard things at marina/docks.
Our marina is right on sound as well and it is wonderful to be sailing 5 minutes after arriving at boat but is very protected from south and southwest also becomes easier, especially if singlehanded, to p.u. mooring most times.
But come mid Oct. I bring boat into protected Manhasset Bay and extend season to end of November/early Dec. most years.
Don't worry, I consider myself a experienced sailor and I'm still in learning stage!
Maybe someone familiar with protected mooring field in West/Ct. could
lend some advice.

West end has considerably less wind but there are marinas in New Rochelle and City Island. Both are close to drive to downtown. CI is less protected and I can't say how many available slips you will find when the weather gets rough. MetroNorth from Pelham or New Rochelle is less than 40 minutes to Grand Central Station.

Town docks and marinas are not common on the West end of the sound... Clubs are... and Marinas (with no moorings) and a few boat yards with slips and few to no moorings. Try Barrons on City Island they have moorings... no slips though.
