ICW Cruising Guides ?

I'm thinking about a trip South on the Intracoastal, and wondered what everyone uses for planning. Claibourn Young's books seem to have disappeared and he was very good. Anchoring out gets a little old, and there are so many marinas in financial distress these days, I'm not sure where to stop along the way. Is there a printed guide or an online guide?

Try Cruiser's Net
Lots (perhaps too much) Info on the ICWW. This site is created by Craig Claiborne who has guides for NC, SC, GA and maybe FL.

Active Captain is a great resource to have and it is easily accessed by smart phone cell service along the ICW. We found the Waterway Guide series to be very good. Apparently they bought the Captain Bob company and incorporated his info in their books. You can find them on the web at Waterwayguide.com

Although there's no need to mention ActiveCaptain after the couple of recommendations here already, I will add that ActiveCaptain is completely free making it a difficult resource to pass up. There is no better collection of marina, anchorage, bridge, inlet, and especially hazard information in any form (paper or electronic) on this planet.

There is one thing with ActiveCaptain though - if you use it, you're karma-bound to add to the data for others!

I have a copy of Claiborne's book that we used on our trip in May. Would you like it?

We swear by the Skipper Bob books. Get both the Marinas and the Anchorages books.

See the link Skipper Bob
