Beaufort Marina

Yes we are going cruising, I will have the boat trucked to Beaufort area in mid- November.

I am looking for a good marina with friendly service to take it off the truck, re-mast (keel stepped) and put in water. Boat is an Island Packet 35, 18000pds. Ship store, resto and grocery nearby would be great...

Thanks

There is no marina with a Travel lift in Beaufort. There is one in Morehead City I think that it is Harbor Master Marina, PO Box 1048, Morehead City, NC 28557. 252-726-2541. Most of the boatyrds are for powerboats. Bock Marine, Inc., 233 Core Creek Rd., Beaufort, NC 28516. 252-728-6855 is on the ICW before you get to Morehead City. They are one of the few Yards set up for Sailboats. While they are not near town They are good to sailboaters and are probably the only yard around that has experience in stepping masts. Beaufort is all about sport fishing and except for transients sailboats only have a token presense.

Actually, forget Beaufort, I would get intouch with the marinas in nearby Oriental. Sailboats are everywhere and the people at Sailcrafters or Deaton Yacht Services, 1306 Neuse Dr., Oriental, NC 28571. 252-249-1180 are very experienced at servicing sailboats. At deatons hotels, resteraunts, marine stores and supermarkets are within walking distance. Go to Oriental to launch then sail the 4 hrs to Beaufort, trust me, you will be much better off.

If you're thinking NC there are two yards just north of Beaufort on the ICW who can do your work, Jarrett Bay and Bock Marine. Jarrett is the more complete service area and Bock more for DIY but both are good in their own way.

I agree with Morgan 3820, go to Deaton or Sailcraft in Oriental. Bock Marine and Jarrett Bay are both good places but they are literally 10 miles from anything. In Oriental you are in walking distance of everything even if some of them are a long walk.

If you're going to start going backwards from Beaufort up the ICW then how about Bellhaven? It's a nice spot and not half as crowded as Oriental. I think Bock or Jarrett Bay might be ideal. Bock's prices are better but not too many spots to tie up once you're in the water.

It is Beaufort NC, but could also be Oriental or anywhere near, I do not intend to spend much time there, just as a trip starter.

For now Oriental seems to be the place. Sailcraft??

Both Sailcraft and Deaton are quality yards.
