A note from Gisle (our benefactor)

Gisle replied to my message regarding the recent "outage" at the CruisersForum:

Oct. 8/05
Thanks a lot Gord - and thanks for the happy birthday message in July :-)
As you know I haven't checked out this site for several months.
Well, my other obligations are increasing. Now I'm plant manager at a
container board factory - with 280 employees
So there's been a problem. Hmm, it's OK now, so it must have been the
server.
Thank you for taking care of the website :-)
Best regards,
Gisle

I have been experimenting with this site for fun and because it could be an asset to readers of my publication (see www.thecoastalpassage.com ) There are local issues that could really use a forum of this type but I do not have the puter knowledge to handle. So.. the question is... would that kind of thing be welcome? In any case could I get some background on the who what why etc of this site to publish?

Cheers

one more thing!!! whats this "junior cruiser" thingo?? there are those that consider me knowledgable. Kind of embassarin'. I have a very carefully crafted image of a drunken but seaworthy sailor and resent an imputation of my august status..... or something like that.

cheers

On any new ship, we all have to earn our salt. Rank is adjusted according to the number of posts. Senoir cruiser does not take long.

Bob:
What are the results of your experimentation on this site, and what are the likely side-effects that we cruisers might experience as a result of this experimentation?

”I have been experimenting with this site for fun ...”

I’m not certain just what you’re proposing. Perhaps you could elaborate. We have members from all over the world, many of whom are able to post expert information & local knowledge about specific local areas. I’m certain we’d welcome more.
See also the 'Cruising Destinations ' section, where most "regional" discussions take place.

”... There are local issues that could really use a forum ... Would that kind of thing be welcome ...

Our founder and benefactor, Gisle, provides a little background on the forum at:
Why another discussion board?
Now we're public

”... In any case could I get some background on the who what why etc of this site to publish ...”

Further to Kai Nui’s explanation of titles.
User titles

”... whats this "junior cruiser" thingo ...”

HTH,
Gord

Maybe Bob means "exploring," and wants to add a BB to his own site. Would be a nice feature for folks who've had a common experience.

Yeah, Bob, seniority around here is a function of how prolific a poster one is. The site can't measure my sagacity, but it can count my submissions. However, I find that the inverse is true: those with the fewest words and who are slower on the trigger are often likely to be the wisest of the crowd, because they take the time to actually read and reflect before forming an opinion and engaging mouth (keyboard).

Jeff...how true...I think I'm a swab here, but probably have a mile or two more than most under the keel!
