Where is your Boat Registered?

Please detail the "other" - and would also be kinda interesting to hear if folks have decided that they would do something different next time.

I am ignoring whether the boat is registered in a personal or corporate name.

No, this is not what I wanted to explain. I don't intend to register my next boat in another country than France.

Note that many U.S. states require a USCG documented boat to also be state registered, so some folks might have to pick or choose one answer from the list even if they have both designations.

Fair point - in which case I would suggest that folks click only on USA (USCG), on the basis that it is the "Higher" Registration (at least more universally / internationally recognised)......and for those who have more than one boat, pick the "main" boat - and if not only one in that category, then toss a coin!

I live in Sweden, so I registered it in Sweden but the boat lives in Greece. I could have registered it in Aus but keeping it EU registered seemed less hassle and it is very easy to do as Swedish registration is handled by the Swedish Cruising Club if it is not so big that it must be on the shipping registry. Just fill in a form and pay a small fee.

Just out of nosiness, am I right in saying that for Swedish Reg you need to be a Swedish resident (and also a Swedish Citizen / Passport holder?).

If it is for registration (boats over 12m x 4m) then I am pretty sure you have to be citizen. Under you just get an international certificate. That may be open to residents but I am not certain. I had a quick look but could not see anything.

Thanks for being nosey. I took a quick look at the page about the "international certificate" and noticed that they are valid 2 years. Mine expired in December and I better apply for a new one before I hit the water in spring

I think the EU is pretty strict in requiring that countries don't discriminate citizens from other countries. So I would expect that just like with Belgian, French or Dutch registration that Swedish registration is open to any EU citizen. Nice flag too.
I wonder what registry would be the easiest/cheapest for EU citizens? Which registration has the least amount of red tape?

I have a feeling that most also have a residency requirement, so not quite "open borders" to pick and choose. In any event, with Boat Registrations I don't think their is anywhere (in EU or out of) that is both easy and cheap, at least not any that are available to non-residents.

FWIW, the above Poll may form the basis of an online "crib sheet" that summarises the main points / requirements for the most common countries for boat reg (ballpark costs / Passport / Residency / paperwork requirements). I say may because I iz lazy and easily distracted!........online lots of good info already, but mostly either from the Boat registry themselves and from folks selling specific jurisdictions - I have not seen anything online that covers and compares a range of them.

Registered in Holland but settled for Netherlands in the poll.

p.s. you can register in about every country when you erect a local company for just that.
