What is the current FL anchoring policy?

I know this has been beaten to death but I can't seem to find a straight answer when I search the old threads. Everyone is too busy yelling! Lol. What is Florida's current policy towards anchoring specifically in West Palm/Ft Lauderdale area? Is the pilot program over? Can you still anchor in behind peanut island or up at the top of Lake Worth?

This is still current. Most of what you are reading is about proposed changes, none of which are in effect (yet).

North Lake Worth has plenty of boats anchored in it. We stayed there for a week, no problem. Never saw law enforcement.

I'm a little confused. In Skipper Bob's it mentions police coming by to collect a fee for people anchoring in parts of Lake Worth but west Palm is not on that list of places that is using the pilot program. Is it okay to anchor long term in Lake Worth?

Skipper Bob, although useful, is not always right. Are you talking about the North Lake Worth anchorage? If you are, there is a portion of it that lies within a county that has a by-law re anchoring but the east end of the anchorage is not in that county. In any event, I've anchored there many times and never had a problem other than fouling the anchor on the old mooring blocks that dot the bottom there.

There are many anchorages in the Lake Worth area. One of the more recently favoured ones is in between the two bridges just south of Palm Beach. Between Flagler and Royal Palm bridges. Southbound boats anchor there now. Good dinghy dock there too.

Re: What is the current FL anchoring policy?

So why is everyone freaking out? It just seems like you aren't allowed to liveaboard permanently on your boat at anchor but that the liveaboard lines are a bit blurred.

Re: What is the current FL anchoring policy?

Haha no really though. It doesn't seem like there are any laws in place that are that upsetting. All they are saying is that you cannot permanently live aboard and anchor and that you cannot anchor in designated mooring fields. Is there a part of the legislation I am missing? We are planning on anchoring for two weeks in west palm and Delray so this applies. Are there any laws prohibiting us from doing this? It doesn't seem like it from what I read. Mods feel free to shut this thing down if it gets crazy.

Where are you going to anchor at Delray?

On the west side of the ICW south of Delray Beach? That's Pelican Harbor. never gone in there. We usually stop at Lake Boca, a bit further south.

How much water is in there? Gone past many times, can't recall ever seeing anyone anchored there.

Re: What is the current FL anchoring policy?

Have you actually read the proposed rules?

This is federal and modest income cruisers vs. state and super wealthy issue. The only reason you are now saying "what's the big deal" is that cruisers stood up and did something about it last time the anchoring issue came up.

If this legislature is allowed to pass it's going to put a serious hurt on anchoring in florida. Where your pops is, for example, may be off limits to anchoring or be seriously limited. You would not be able to stay put in a place you like, and you would be faced with constant bangs on the hull for inspections by the local police. Heavy and steep fines that are legit or etc. etc.

This is bad legislature.
