What Can We Do About Drones?!?

I'm having a hell of a time right now with some jerk who keeps sending a drone to my boat.

I'm at anchor and this jerk sends the drone 20' above the boat repeatedly, day after day.

I'm really tired of the noise and I'm not here at anchor to have people looking in my salon windows and stuff.

I'm in Miami. What are my legal rights?

First instinct is to throw things at it.

Throw a net up at it - best way to bring it down.

The drone is not the problem it is the operator. Can you not speak to him/her about it.

I have one and do a lot of filming with it but would never do that more than once.

My last video:-

12 ga, #6 or 8 bird shot. you want to be able to damage the props but still be able to steal the camera gear. You can use the footage when you file charges.

Re: What Can We Do About Drones?!?

I have my 2nd amendment tool handy and it has a nice dispersion, but... that becomes "destruction of property" or something from what I've read.

Also, firing off in a big city is jusr ethically wrong, in my opinion, if not against the law.

I'm looking for something legal to do.

I'm at anchor. I have no way to know who owns it. It comes from shore daily, repeatedly.

I think I'll go get a casting net. Good idea. Was thinking a slingshot as well.

Wish my casting net wasn't in storage at this time....

That's definitely my initial reaction. Already threw a bottle at it. Missed.

Trying to stay within the law.

How about a catapult [wrist rocket] Tie two nuts together with a yard of fishing line and try to tangle it up. Silent but deadly !!

Careful, the drone my be government property. Or it may belong to a waterfront land owner who would like you to un clutter his view. In the past I have seen people use bottle rockets to harass boats at anchor.

I'm way, way out. 4x as far away from land as everyone else anchoring and in front of a commercial area.

There are homes way down the shore and it's coming from one of them.

Are there other boats anchored nearby? Are there other liveaboards? Are you the only one getting visited?

Re: What Can We Do About Drones?!?

Be aware, I saw a notice posted in Miami that there is a person who bought a drone who was seeking big yachts to film and photograph because he wants to start a commercial photography service. The owner of your offending drone may be doing the same, just practicing or getting some footage for his pitch reel.
