Americans: This is the captain of a US navy ship. I say again divert YOUR course

New Zealanders: No I say again Divert your course.

Americans: This is the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln, the second largest ship in the United States Pacific fleet. We are accompanied by 3 destroyers, 3 cruisers, and numerous support vessels. I demand that you change your course 15* north. I say again that's one five degrees north or countermeasures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.

New Zealanders: This is a lighthouse. Your call.
Never understood this one though I have had it heard fifty different ways. Always some island nation and always an American aircraft carrier.

What gives? Is it aicraft carrier envy?

Sad really. I am sure your island is lovely. Don't be jealous of American aircraft carriers. It is very unbecoming.

You are kidding me, right!

In the slight chance you are seriously asking, it is about the arrogance...

Wow, that's even more sad. But I suppose this type of prejudicial thinking is somehow okay because you're not Ameican? How ironic. And also weirdly jingoistic, which is even more ironic. I really dislike self centered people to begin with.

You know the first time I heard this clever little story was many years ago told by a psychologist in the context of empathy skill building to basically explain the there are two sides to every story.

There were no nationalities involved and it wasn't an aircraft carrier, it was just the captain of a regular old ship and a lighthouse keeper talking. Very sad indeed to see it morphed into some kind of political statement.

Plus to imply that the commander of an aircraft carrier would somehow confuse a lighthouse with a ship is sort of so ridiculous that it makes me wonder about who would think it so clever and smart that they would repeat it.

Great way to say thanks to the nation that was the first to give the world global positioning and the millions that benefit from it.

I liked it better when thought it was just penis envy. But maybe it still is.

Delancey, I'm not defending the joke, I'm just explaining it...

Maybe you need a hug right now or perhaps better, a friendly drink

Sorry Wotname, didn't mean you you, meant you who would tell the joke. Thanks for the explanation, I don't get things sometimes. Not very bright I guess. Cheers!

Re: What Can We Do About Drones?!?

Hi guys,

The first time I heard it was while I was taking my boating licence, no nations were involved just 2 guys on the radio in a foggy night.

Either way a joke Is a joke......not supposed to be taken seriously or personally!

Does somebody know the best way to get rid of a drone already? -without going to jail?

Its a shame the humor is lost.....funny as hell. I've been a lurker for quite sometime. Finally had to jump in on this thread. The drift on this thread has been amazingly funny and I love it!

Re: What Can We Do About Drones?!?

The question of ownership of the land below and the air above property has been discussed in Australia. Fracking, underground mining, mineral rights etc.

I remember the air above as being regulated by the government.

I suspect the airspace regulations will eventually change to include drones.

Today in Australia ultralights are unregulated and must stay below 400 or 500 feet. Clearly this wont address the annoyance that drones present.
