Waiting for USCG registration

I hope that this question doesn't sound dumb, but I haven't found the answer yet.

Let's say I take advantage of the devalued Euro and purchase an Italian flagged boat in Italy.

Obviously, I cannot begin the USCG documentation process until the deal closes. From what I am reading here, it can take several weeks to several months to get US Documentation.

Am I then stuck in the country where I purchase the vessel while I await the documentation?

Is the Bill of Sale sufficient to begin the delivery to North America?

Thanks in advance for an answer from someone who's been there and done that?

Re: Waiting for USCG registration

You can ask the USCG to expedite the process, given these circumstances. This shouldn't be too much of an obstacle.

Re: Waiting for USCG registration

How is it being delivered? I know that if you bring it via cargo transport such as Sevenstar you will not need the documentation until the boat arrives at the US.

Why can't things remain where i carelessly left them?

Sure you can take delivery with your bill of sale. Sail it home.

Re: Waiting for USCG registration

I applied for priority documentation with a departure date two weeks away. Had the documentation at my cousin's address within 5 days.
