If we live and work outside of the EU and wish to purchase an EX TAX pre-owned vessel in Italy or France for export outside of the EU there would be a delay between completion and shipping. How long would we be able to keep the vessel moored in Italy or France llegally before it gets on the next container vessel without being stung for VAT in the EU?

should be 18 months if you are non resident in the eu

thanks for the thanks pm,just another point,when you go to customs take any documents proving your non res status in the eu ie; bank a/c in non eu country,residence certificate in non eu country,proof of address in non eu country gas/electricity bill etc also letter from employer if working.

worked for me,a uk passport holder with sa residence, in cyprus when they joined the eu,customs didn't like it,but there was sweet fa they could do about it........

normally will give you a 6month exemption straight off,up to a total of 18 months.

also when you want to come back to the eu to live you can get a s.a.d and as long as you dont sell the vessel for 1 year you can import it vat free as a personal possesion.
