USCG Documentation Search by Builder Name

I remember finding a link that someone posted recently in some thread, the name of which I cannot for the life of me remember, that led to a search engine for USCG documented vessels. There were a few different search criteria that could be used, one of which was the vessel builder's name. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help find that website.

What little working memory I still have tells me it might have had something to do with NOAA but the only NOAA site that I can locate that deals with documentation has only two search criteria; either boat name or document ID number. I need to search on the builder's name.

Thanks in advance.

Jim

Here you go:

You can get the builders name by looking at the registration.

That search is by Vessel name. I think he want to find all boats made by a particular builder like Hunter, for example. I'm not aware of such a search. If there was a way to search by HIN with wild cards, that would work since the builder is encoded into the HIN.

You're correct. I want to search for all documented boats from a specific builder. There was such a link somewhere here that I came across in the last few weeks or so. I'm certain of it because I searched for all boats built by Shannon in an attempt to locate my old boat. It listed all currently documented Shannons and gave, among other things, length, net tons, year built and owner's name.

Re: USCG Documentation Search by Builder Name

Has anyone figured out how to lookup documented vessels by builder? A couple of years ago there was some discussion on how that could be done but I never read how to do it. I would surely appreciate it if some would help me out on how to do a builder lookup.
Thanks,
Ray

Re: USCG Documentation Search by Builder Name

That's a good resource, but they want $8 for the results, or you can buy a membership for $20/ month -what a joke.

Here 's the free work-around:

Goto to https://www.boatinfoworld.com/download.asp and enter the name of the manufacturer. The names of the individual vessels will be listed for free, as a teaser to get you to buy a membership. Then, if you want the rest of the info they are charging for (owner's address, documentation #, etc.), just go to the NOAA Fisheries site and search by vessel name (Office of Science and Technology).

You might have to scroll through a few duplicate boat names to find the one you want, but it's worth saving $8.

Thanks Yukon,
I got the information I needed through Mary's note. I'm sure yours will work as well.
I'm trying to buy a specific vintage Kadey Krogen 48 of which there are 5. Seems everytime one comes up for sale I'm about 48 hours too late. I think I'll send a note to the owners asking them to keep me in mind should they decide to move up or move on. It's worth a try. The brokers might not like it... but what the heck.

Re: USCG Documentation Search by Builder Name

It's not the clearest search, but the first three characters of a HIN is the manufacturer. You can enter just the first three digits and search.

BEY = Beneteau
CTY = Catalina
HUN = Hunter

There was another website that would let you search for the manufacturer code, but I don't tenderness it.
