TSA and Customs are quite different functions. Check the TSA regs online, there isn't much in the line of boat
gear that you can't transport in checked baggage. Hazmat is the primary issue. Carry-on baggage is of course more restrictive. Customs is variable depending upon your
destination. I've brought in all sorts of boat
gear -
water maker,
wind turbine, 70#
anchor etc. in checked baggage to
Honduras,
Guatemala and
Mexico. I make it easy for Customs by putting a printed inventory in each bag, categorizing each item as personal,
safety, sporting goods, tools etc. I keep my invoices separate just in case duty is levied. I have handy my Yacht Documentation, Cruising
Permit, Marina info etc. My experience is that Customs will prefer to talk to you than to read your letters.
