I would like a British Ensign, and will be heading to Gibraltar as our first stop, but I need to have the boat registered before I leave France. I would need a tonnage certificate, but at the moment cannot seem to find anyone who does that near the marina at les Sables-d'Olonne.

Anyone got any ideas on best practice for boat registration when taking delivery of a new yacht from Lagoon?
Save yourself a lot of grief.. get Part 1 Registery.. beats the cheapskate SSR as its proof of ownership whereas the SSR is not..
The Lagoon suppliers should provide you with all you need for this as its a brand new vessel.. Its the best way to go.. and you qualify.

The SSR was originally done by the RYA but the Government took it over back in the last quarter of the last century.. along with the Part 1 which used to be run by the Lloyds Shipping Registery..
Its a simple basic registration only really meant for localish waters but since folk started silly fantasies about the Med it kinda spread S via the French canals at first..
I was advised while it was still being run by the RYA if going abroad go Part 1.. its a formal document that lists one as owner of 64 Shares of the Vessel.. or whatever amount of Shares/person if a shared ownership.
The SSR means nothing other than its recorded on a computor somewhere.. and likely adequate for the EU..

Re: Tonnage Certificate for new Lagoon 450

Reading this thread I don't see anyone has resolved this problem yet, just a lot of suggestions.

I'm taking delivery of my 450 in July also. Will be registering in the BVI's. I just returned from a Lagoon factory tour in France and still can't find anyone who can recommend a "tonnage surveyor". I can't believe I am the first person to take delivery at the factory and register in the BVI's.

If someone has a contact, phone number or email of a surveyor who has registered in the BVI's I would greatly appreciate it. This is becoming more difficult than it needs to be.

Thank you all.

Re: Tonnage Certificate for new Lagoon 450

As I've already posted in this thread, I had my temporary registration in hand and only had to have the survey done in the BVI, send in (or fax, I can't recall) that paper from the surveyors and soon had my permanent registration.

The Surveyors I used are:

Caribbean Marine Surveyors

Zanshin- Thanks for that bit of information and the contact details.

Does the temporary registration have an expiration? Is it good for 6 months or 1 year, etc.?

(sorry, I've been working at the Antigua Sailing Week and haven't logged in for a while). My temporary certificated was valid 6 months.

Re: Tonnage Certificate for new Lagoon 450

Thank you. That will be enough time for me to reach the BVI's
