Thai Partner

Visa for french Polynesia.

So my Thai mrs must have an interview with the French embassy staff in Vancouver. This is a 2 day trip & $800 plane ticket. So about $1300 for a 15min interview. If I go with her to the big city then it gets silly!!

I think I may have read that if a such national turns up on a boat they can pay the bond (Home Airfare) and get the short stay visa that way. Am I dreaming delirious or what.

Re: Thai Partner

Now they want a bank statement from her for the last 3 months. By canadian law she is not allowed to have a bank account or even a joint account. She has been in canada for three years almost, immigration is nearly complete. I write and get told to read the web page again.

Maybe just turn up if they tell us to bugger off then we will do.

Re: Thai Partner

No own bank account sounds an odd one to me (as kinda like making her a chattel / financially dependent on you), are sure it is an immigration law and not simply a local bank rule? (no furriners!).

Anyway, am no expert of course - but I would have thought that if you can quote the Canadian law (and printout an extract) that says she cannot have own bank account that together with a covering letter would actually show she is someone who takes immigration law seriously. At the end of the day they mainly want to make sure she won't be staying or using them as a back door into the EU or becoming a burden (£££) from being potless........and they can only say no (PITA though that is). But if taking a turn up and see approach (I can see the temptation!), perhaps better not to have a refusal on her file?

Anyway, best of luck - am sure plenty of other folks (with spouses / partners) with different passport will be interested in how things go (paperwork and reality!).

Re: Thai Partner

Cheers, The law was changed because of Money laundering. We are recognized as legal partners in canada, as I said she can go into debt with a credit card but not have money in a bank account.

Should hear today. Lrt you know.
