Re: Safety Inspections in Your Area?

As i said previously we were boarded early season in the Adriatic, we are now wintering here and old sewage in our holding tanks then every 14 days go for a trip one mile offshore and dispose/flush.

BUT anyone will tell you here in the Adriatic the coastal houses/villages flush directly into the harbour waters, the evening stench is very bad! But the fish are well fed!!!!!!

Cheers

Re: Safety Inspections in Your Area?

I see recreational boaters getting boarded quite frequently on the SF Bay. The Coasties leave the workboats alone. They know we already get inspected to one degree or another.

It's a funny thing with the 25 footers that they use for boarding, they are either going 40 knots or zero knots, there never seems to be any speed in between.

Re: Safety Inspections in Your Area?

I just remembered something - one time we were missing the trash placard and the flares were out-dated. The CG Aux folks told us that no one sees this report other than them and myself. One of them gave me their cell number and explained that if I got those items cleared up in a week or so to just give them a call and they will come back and give me my sticker. I did and they did.

Re: Safety Inspections in Your Area?

After many years delivering boats up and down the west coast, I lost count of the number of times I was boarded by the 'coasties' and never recall one negative experience. Quite the contrary! In every instance, they were courteous, professional and mostly downright friendly, even donning 'booties' before walking on carpeted interiors. I do recall once entering Fort Bragg in fairly good size surf where crossing the bar took a bit of concentration. The local CG insisted they come out to guide me in even though I was a licensed skipper with years of experience. After tying up, they asked if they could do an inspection to which I readily agreed. The only ding was that we had forgotten to close the thru hull for the day head before entering the harbor... pretty small potatos! They invited us up to visit the CG station which we did armed with 3-4 pizzas and had a great tour of the facility. Couldn't have met a finer bunch of young men and women who were totally committed to keeping yachties and those who earn their living on the water safe and informed. Hats off to these great folks. Credit where credit is due! Cheers, Phil

Re: Safety Inspections in Your Area?

I have been boarded twice while in the commercial fishing mode, once by the LEOs, state troopers, and once by USCG, both times they were very professional and courteous. They did refuse my offer of coffee, given how old and rank the coffee was, that was probably a wise move.
