NOT refitting

Well I tore apart my boat getting ready for a big refit....and then I got my tax bill...and now I am not going to refit my boat. Making money really is a bad idea. It was all much easier when I didn't.

Re: NOT refitting

I haven't filed my taxes yet, but I know I'll have to owe quite a bit. I won't be able to put as much work into my boat as I'd like for a while. I'm expecting to haul out in the fall and start a refit that might take a few years.

Re: NOT refitting

I thought this was going to be the refit to get me my dream boat but alas.

My mother is down in the Bahamas right now and wrote me an email about a bunch of Haitian refugees getting turned away by police boats down there. Life is hard. But it could be worse. I will wake up tomorrow and be grateful for what I have, not angry about what I don't have.

Re: NOT refitting

that's a good outlook to have.

Is the boat still usable now or will you have to wait until you can do the refit?

Re: NOT refitting

When it comes to refitting, never neglect the power of the internet, particularly Craig's List and Ebay, to finding stuff that you need at a fraction of the price of new. In Annapolis there is a huge market in used gear, with a retailer, Bacon's, that specializes in used gear on consignment (although it never ceases to amaze me what people think they can get for some stuff).

Re: NOT refitting

I have also been stunned at the prices people want for pure trash. Some consignment stores have high standards and some are dumps. I have found some wonderful bargains and I've seen mountains of trash wasting valuable store space. Oh well, it is fun ferreting out the good stuff some times. One man's trash.......

Re: NOT refitting

Tell Uncle Sam to go piss up a rope. He'll understand. Spend the money on the boat. Refuse to continue funding your own destruction and tell them you've withdrawn your consent. You will not be the first.

Wake up tomorrow with what you have, not what "they" say you can keep. Look for us in the Ocean Redoubt.

Stuck on the hard. The whole interior is torn out and the deck has big splotches of bare fiberglass. That's not the problem though. The problem is that now I have to go make money instead of work on the boat.

I thought the bigger the tax bill, the bigger the salary.
