The OP has responded to a parallel thread at <crew.org.nz/forum> with a reasoned response.

Damn right... OZ is the most expensive country I've ever visited... beer $7-$9/bottle (small).. Tobacco $30/25Gms... Rum $43/bottle... $3 for 1 bludi capsicum... no wonder I got charged $95 for 1 hrs labour... all the sod did was drive to a caravan shop in his lunch hour to get a gas solenoid for the boat... total cost... $182...

Never a more truer post has been penned on this Forum, i'm believing Australia does rank as the most expensive without doubt

OK thanks Dave

It would not change what I would do, but interesting nonetheless.

I can tell many of you have never visited Denmark - or norway for that matter.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: New Zealand Immigration Officer Making Wild Claims

Bit of historical perspective here. I wonder what the surveyors, and NZ bureaucrats, would have thought of the vessels the original inhabitants used to get to and settle the place, and also incidentally just about all the rest of the vast Pacific Ocean?

Obviously they thought they were just fine... that's why a Tiki 21 held together with string was allowed to continue its circumnavigation...

Aussie dollar is starting to self correct. It really should be no more than 75c USD. Down 15% since April to US92c. China, the mining boom and weak US monetary policy were propping up the Aussie. All of those are ending.

Australia and New Zealand going to be affordable cruising destinations again within a few years. The beer prices and quarantine fees won't seem so bad soon. Who knows, we might even start exporting used boats back to the US.
