New US Continental Shelf Check-in Reg

The USCG announced a new, expanded checkin procedure on 13 Jan 2011. Press release summarizes the new rule: Coast Guard announces publication of Outer Continental Shelf Notice of Arrival Rule | Coast Guard News
and contains an additional link to the regulation itself. Essentially, this is an advanced notice of arrival rule and extends all the way to the beginning of the area the US has legal authority over. Didn't see this on the site so I thought I'd post it. Beginning to think that the reason a large number of sailors never go cruising is all the red tape!

Sounds like they've adopted the Oz procedure... definitely goes beyond the 200mile mark tho in a lotta places...

Thanks for the heads up; but I'm not certain this new rule applies to visiting cruisers.

“SUMMARY: The Coast Guard revises its regulations on Outer Continental
Shelf (OCS) Activities to enhance maritime domain safety and security
awareness on the OCS by issuing regulations which will require notice
of arrival for floating facilities, mobile offshore drilling units
(MODUs), and vessels planning to engage in OCS activities. This final
rule implements provisions of the Security and Accountability for Every
Port Act of 2006 and increases overall maritime domain awareness by
requiring owners or operators of United States and foreign flag
floating facilities, MODUs, and vessels to submit notice of arrival
information to the National Vessel Movement Center prior to engaging in
OCS activities.

My understanding is this ony applies to vessels arriving onto or working on the US continental shelf
