New Boat and changing the name

I've a new boat and have already changed the name on all the paperwork - it's Coast Guard registered. I've checked into ordering new name templates from a few places. It's expensive enough that I will only want to do it once. Problem is, I plan to have the boat hauled out an painted in a few months.

Is it ok to display the boat name on a board attached to the aft rails?

Re: New Boat and changing the name

Coast Guard regulations stipulate the size and position of the lettering. (3", on the transom, I believe. You should be able to find the info online.) How the lettering is done is not as carefully specified. We used masking tape on our transom until the decals arrived. There's a huge daily fine for not having the name and hailing port showing properly.
