Re: Nav Lights Cheat Sheet

Edit my last...

But then again, having those cards aboard would be nice for training new crew members - or checking if the crew remembers what was once taught. Couldn't hurt to have them.

Those cheat sheets need a flip side - for the flip side of the world. Things like:

Waving cigarette lighter: fisherman
Purple, green and blue lights in random orientations: local ferry boat
Dim white light: CF member with solar garden lights

Let's not forget:

Filthy kerosene lamp on a stick: panga.
Multi-coloured powerful LEDs pointing straight down into the water: New powerboat; owner's name may end in a vowel.
Huge, dim, vaguely rippled red and green lamps on bow: The Pardeys.

Re: Nav Lights Cheat Sheet

There is a cool product that I've seen from Weems and Plath called "ROAD rule." They are slide rules that you can use to line up the lights you see... and then it tells you what it is. Someone showed one to me at a sailing talk we were attending... though they were cool.

I've seen these and thought it was an excellent product. Just line up lights

Re: Nav Lights Cheat Sheet

I use this app on my iPhone - better than my old flashcards. It covers all the NavLights (and shapes):

Hope this helps.
