Actually South Beach is a great stop. Good grocery stores nearby, laundromat, hardware store, very good public transportation. And a wonderful place to stroll around. Think it's fairly safe there. No really bad areas that you have to avoid. And don't forget free wifi.

If you are illegally parking, land or water, you are part of the problem and the community is better off without you. Plus, you contribute to a less than positive image for boaters.

From your statement re illegally parking it is obvious that you are not a cruiser nor are you familiar with Miami Beach. Perhaps I might be able to help you understand the issue.

The Collins Canal is public property, not private. Cruisers have always been able to tie their dinks to the sides of the canal. The sign appears to be a Seatow sign, not a City of Miami Beach sign. Tying your dink to the side of the canal is akin to running your dink up a public beach. This has been going on in the Canal since at least 1990 when I first went there. Just last year or maybe the year before, a dinghy dock was built on the canal opposite the Publix store on Dade Blvd.

I would be very interested in knowing what brought about the Seatow signs. Has the City deeded the canal to Seatow? Is there a fine for tying up there?

This is less than 1 mile from the guy who has a bunch of decrepit lasers anchored to keep cruisers from anchoring there. And if I'm not mistaken, it was the state rep from this area who introduced the last anti-anchoring ordinance. Looks to me like he's just trying another approach. SSDD

You are mistaken. The latest attempts at the state level was from a legislator from an inland county 200+ miles from Miami. There were previous attempts from those representing Miami Beach, but they were silent in this year's session.

Actually I have heard there are Federal Laws allowing access to the banks of any navigable body of water. Don't know how you would check this out, but I believe there are many local laws and rules that could be over-turned by overriding Federal laws. Just that no one cares or dares to challenge.

from a post above, it appears that sea tow illegally removed boats and charged owners. "the law allows towing from PRIVATE property". A large lawsuit should be the next step, both for the company doing the illegal towing and the city posting the illegal signs.

if in fact they did remove these boats illegally, Then werent the removed boats stolen?
