Nah, We should all be required to fly naked and blindfolded.
Oh, and handcuffed hand and foot.

Sounds kinky--is there a long line?

Re: Maltreatment By Homeland Security

I once used my A.B. seaman's card as ID while in line to be screened and the TSA guy didn't know what to do with it, he asked me if I had a driver's license instead. And I explained to him that it was federal ID and no I did not have a driver's license. He had to take it to his supervisor to get the okay. I once did the same thing with my TWIC card in a different airport and received the same response. The supposedly trained TSA agents could not even recognize federal ID. I tried to get one of those trusted traveler status and went through all the hoops and could not arrange an interview so that I could be called "Trusted" and not have to wait in line with all the other passport bearers. Since I could not make the interview within the alotted time interval they got to keep my $100.00 bucks and I got to stand in line some more.

My wife watched the same thing happen when the woman in line in front of her presented a valid passport.

It appears to be an evolving process that is very bureaucratic. We use a NEXUS card while boating and that now extends to a TSA recognized Trusted Traveler program that allows us to go through the TSA security checks with shoes on, laptop still in the bag, and even smiling TSA hosts. It is sort of like hotel chains, they seem to treat you better if you are using their card.

I also would like to see this as I have never heard of this right. My understanding is that you can be boarded at any time by Coast Guard/custom services or RCMP and have your vessel and crew inspected. Never heard of an exemption to this?

The NEXUS program does not apply to Coast Guard boardings or inspections. It does apply to clearing customs and US TSA airport security processing. I do not know if it does anything for Canadian airport security processing.

More information is here: U.S. Customs and Border Protection - Travel

I am sorry I was replying to the quote in the initial pages of this thread in regards to an individual stating that Canadian Authorities cannot board your vessel in Canada:
re:Up here Canada You can refuse to allow anyone on board if conditions deem it unsafe for you or them.

58-
This fall I gave a TSA chowderhead my "passport card" as ID. He accepted it, no problem there, but then he asked me what it was because "I've never seen one of these before".
Da, Comrade. Is Cuban Communist Party Honorary Membership Card.

If he has to ask what it is...why is he accepting it as valid ID?

Re: Maltreatment By Homeland Security

One reason you might get asked a seemingly odd or dumb question at a TSA check point is that they are just fishing for your reaction more than the answer. That is standard operating procedure with some customs/immigration/border patrol types. I have noticed in recent years such seemingly random questions when crossing borders.
