Isn't an operator card just another word for a licence?
No, unlike a driver's licence, the operator card cannot be revoked and is good for life.

IE, even if you commit an offence, such as boating while intoxicated, you can't lose your PCOC (although your regular driver's license would be suspended).
That is a fact however if you are caught without one it will be a fine. And it is a requirement not a request. I am not too sure about the possibility of it being revoked. Don't really want to test it.

It has nothing to do with vessel operation imo I'm not sure if your asa 101 license will satisfy the requirement, but one day in a boaters safety course will, unless you're over 55, in which case it's irrelavent.

Bless our politicians for once again saving us from ourselves, after somehow suriving this long unregulated. I wonder how many who voted for this bill have ever owned a boat.

Astro.... be careful. There is a terrible thing that no one talks about. There are NO WARNINGS on the outside of the box or discussed prior to going on your first sale. BOATS ARE MORE ADDICTIVE THEN DRUGS.

I have been looking for a good 12 step program... and have failed.... as each step takes me on board again....

You will part with your money.

and you will feel like you have no cares..... because a BOAT is addictive...

Please consider yourself warned.

easy answer: NONE.

That's why they can do that because it won't effect them.

If you are in the US, then your Govt gets to inspect your Poop. And can force entry onboard at any time of day or night (whether or not you / the Missus is on the throne ). And you can get fined for not Pooping in accordance with Govt Regulations - so you might want training on that, even if not a strict requirement.

The goods news is that it helps keep you free

Re: License to Own and Sail a Boat ?

What if (for the US folks) you guys enter coastal waters of other countries, which require a boating license ? Did you ever get stopped by coastal water police or did you need to show license at customs ?

Re: License to Own and Sail a Boat ?

Charter brokers and websites like Noonsite ought to be of help. I have heard of people getting in some trouble in Mexico -- for having tackle on board but not having FISHING licenses for everyone.

It varies from country to country.

Canada recognizes other Operator's Cards, but you have 45 days to get one once your clear customs.

Quote:
The Regulations apply to non-residents if:

They operate their pleasure craft in Canadian waters for more than 44 consecutive days or,
They operate a pleasure craft that is licensed or registered in Canada (including rented or chartered boats).
The Regulations do not apply to non-residents who operate their pleasure craft (licensed in a country other than Canada) in Canadian waters for less than 45 consecutive days. Please note that a proof of residence will be required on board at all times.
