Keeping a UK Reg Boat in CA

Hello

I've just purchased a boat in California. It is now British registered and moored in a San Francisco marina. I don't intend to cruise it, just the odd day around the bay etc. Can anyone tell me if I need to let any US authority know of it's presence? Thanks John

unfortunatly John, the state of California is way ahead of you... It has become a law for the marinas to notify the government of the boats in the marina on the first of every year so your boat if in the marina on 1/1/12 it will be part taxed as personal property..
For years I griped as we would pass throu the state around christmas and new years to visit with our kids and grandkids and because we were in a marina for the turn of the year, we would be taxed.. for our boat its around 1000 dollars..
They dont care where you are from, only the fact that you are in the state over the first....

Odd day around the bay?

Yikes.

Chances are pretty good that the county assessor is already aware of your boat's presence. You should expect a love letter soon.
