Is it ok to bring a machete aboard?

As long as this weapon (in some countries) is onboard you are mostly fine. Report it when in doubt. Make sure you have a safe locker onboard that officials will be happy with. Just in case.

Do not take it ashore.

You will find lists of limitations per country on the web (also on Wikipedia).

If it is a pretty and unique tool, if you are attached, I would drag it along. It is yours now.

Still need a machete, to whack the empty coconut open so you can get to the jelly. And they are handy for other things too. A thin film of lard or other grease applied after use will keep it from rusting.

I keep a machete just inside the companionway where I can reach it quickly in case I need to chop a coconut in an emergency lol.

Yeah, you'd be surprised how many little things I have lying around like that. several cans of that stuff that will pin a wasp at 30 ft. And wasps are smaller than eyeballs.

I'm waiting for some fittings for my pneumatic potato cannon that has a barrel too small for potatoes but man will it fling an AA battery with some authority. As in through a sheet of 1/4" plywood. Nice mass. And easy to find. I even started stocking piling my depleted AA batteries. With the right valves and chamber, a charged up tank at 150 psi will store for a long time and looks amazingly like plumbing. Paper towel makes a nice little sabot, but the slick plastic coating on most of the batteries these days makes them pretty slippery already.

The C-cells REALLy whallop but are tough on the machinery due to the mass. Big recoil.

anyone got a good method of cutting some rifling into a PVC or copper tube?

Wonder how far I could lob a D cell...

This is my subjective opinion and has no scientific basis that I have heard of, but I have found that personal items such as knives and equipment have less chance of being confiscated if your name and possibly address are decently engraved or otherwise marked permanently.

Back in the post 9/11 days I had a few keychain tools confiscated (stupid stuff like entering a secure area, leaving your pocketknife in the car but forgetting about the leatherman keychain scissors, etc) and I got a replacement once with my name engraved in the handle. Maybe the timing coincided with the reduction in 9/11 issues but I noticed that the same little gizmos that would at least be looked at before often didn't even get a glance when your name is on them.

Anyway, if I was travelling with a machete or large knife I wanted to get home as a memento of a journey, I'd consider getting my name on there somehow in a way that would at least superficially convey that it was not a disposable weapon of some sort, and also be a deterrent to the person examining it who might need one for his toolshed too.

The Guards (police) are not going to search you on the street for no reason but if you bring out a pocket knife in public you could be fined/arrested. Keep in mind that the Guards do not carry any weapons.

I get up in the morning. I decide what I want to do with the day and I go and do it. How much more free can I be? I certainly am not going to spoil it by getting my knickers in a knot over the fact that I perhaps cannot do something that I don't want to do. If Australia becomes a dictatorship then they can all point to me then for enjoying my life and not realising that I should have spent it fighting "them".
