Guns on board?

We will be starting a long term cruising lifestyle in a few months and would like to know the general feeling of keeping a firearm on board while cruising, especially to foreign countries.

In the South Pacific the authorities will ask you to declare if you are carrying guns on board and will relieve you of them for the duration of your stay. A false declaration could cost you a heavy fine and serious trouble if caught.

We’re not allowed to talk about this here as the Admin feels we have neither the maturity nor the judgement to discuss Second Rights issues without incurring a “shoot from the hip” backlash from those with strong opinions.

My only advice is to go about your business…quietly

And don't forget that many of the members here are not in or from the U.S. of A. and have no gun rights to speak of.

So, yes, it is recommended that one should refer to the archives for what has already been expressed, good or bad! The law of the sea is not the law of the land(s).

If anyone steals my inflatable and I am aware,
better watch out for the red dot,
it will start deflating soon after

It's a touchy subject in this forum. From the experience of people who have actually cruised to foreign shores, it seems that guns are a lot of hassle to have on board. Legally anyway.

They usually are required to be handed in at each port of entry, and picked up again at the port of exit. Getting the guns moved from one to the other can also be a problem.

Of course you could choose not to declare them - but if you are caught with undeclared firearms you could end up in jail. In some places this could be seriously life-threatening.

I probably won't be carrying a gun the day I head off into the Pacific. But if I do choose to bring mine, it will be in one hell of a good hiding place.

All these silly ideas like hiding and so on have all been discussed here and absolutely no resolution was ever had. You have those that live by the gun, and those that don't. Please go do a search and read the archives. It is one of the biggest subjects here. Every aspect is covered. There is nothing more to add.
