Just as a simple clarification about correct flag etiquette (and legal requirements)...

A listed ship under 12 m I believe has the choice in Australia of flying the Red or the Blue.

Personally I'd fly the red simply because I'm permitted to and listed ships are the only ones allowed to

(But I don't have either just yet)

I also intend to fly the Indigenous flag on special occasions but always with the red.

What I was pointing out was correct flag etiquette. Most people couldn't give a hoot or (worse, in my opinion) simply can't be bothered even if they do know the etiqette.

And just to stir the pot a little further... it's discriminatory on more than just size. The skin colour (of the flag) is a serious factor. So it's racist too!

I take it your vessel is Australian Owned within the meaning of the Shipping Registration Act 1981. (Commonwealth Law) - If so you commit an offence under Section 69 if you leave a foreign port (in most cases) - not that anyone is going to care while you stay out of Australia, but be aware of this if you ever intend to return.

Yep choice is red ensign or National Flag

Oh my.
Delaware does not care about your citizenship. That is only a factor for Federal documentation, not state registration.
I think if you have a problem off shore, the nearest coast guard will help you regardless of your flag.
Keeping it registered in Delaware is the easiest and cheapest.
Why spend money frivolously? Now, if you were telling me you like the looks of the Guernsey flag, well that is okay. Splurge.
I myself never fly Old Glory.I fly the US Navy Ensign with the snake on it. And have tea parties of course.

Another tangent, we went with Jersey (UK) because it only took a week for the paperwork vs 3 months from what other Aussies told us. Jersey is well regarded and pretty cheap.
