Re: Display of Coast Guard Documentation number

I haven't run across a hidden number yet. I have been just about every where inside during the refit.

Any structural member and make it into the member. It is probably a mute discussion unless your boat is stolen?

Re: Display of Coast Guard Documentation number

The second hidden number is, I believe, for the HIN which is different than the Documentation Number. The HIN is supposed to be on the transom near the starboard side and a second hidden interior location.

Re: Display of Coast Guard Documentation number

I epoxied mine in the bilge, under the floorboards under the main salon table, and put a few coats of epoxy over them to make sure the numbers are permanent.

Re: Display of Coast Guard Documentation number

In day's of yore [wooden ships] the No. was carved into a main beam, included the No. and the tonnage, the carving was so the info could not be changed, I.E. not a board fastened to the beam, interestingly enough the wooden boat i now own [wood] has the No. but not the tonnage carved into the main beam.

You reminded me of that. The tonnage was part of it. I got one from that parents that did have that.

John Easley--
No, you aren't going to get off that easy with only 2 pages of replies to your question.

Mine is carved into the bulkhead in the companionway facing the steps--you see it every time you leave the boat but it isn't really obvious.
