Courtesy Flag Size

I have some yellow fabric, so I was going to make a courtesy flag with it. Is there a specific minimum size/shape?

Yellow is for your Q Flag for Quarantien. Used when you fisrt arrive in a new country.
Ours is about 1 foot x 1 foot.

courtesy flags are little national flags of the countries you are visiting.
We normally buy them when we first arrive at the first news agent we can find. thats where they are cheapest. Sometimes we start with a tiny desk size one, 5 inches x 5 inches. But they are better about the size of the Q Flag

Ok, I got the words mixed up.. For the Q flag, would 7.5 inches be enough? That is the size of my fabric. Is there a minimum size?

Sorry GeckoSenetor didn't mean to hijack your thread. My findings with signal flags and courtesy flags is that the countries usually do not tend to be too strict as long as you are trying. They do not like tattered flags or the lack of flying one. Years ago Kenya used to be very strict with their flag. Which made me worried as we had just a hand made one at the time and didn't really know what we were making as we were copying from a small picture. One of the locals upon seeing our delapidated flag quickly loaned us one until we could get to a shop that sold them. Pretty bad as we were anchored nearly in front of the customs guys. A while later I was told by customs that they usually leave you be for 3 days as long as you show you are trying. Not sure how that would be with a Q flag as that is usually only flying for a couple of hours while being processed.

from somewhere i remember that there is an all-purpose (all-country) courtesy flag. does anyone one know what it looks like? and would some host countries refuse to recognise it?

yes. all most all of them.

some countries take courtesy flags seriously. In Mexico, for example, not flying a proper courtesy flag is considered a serious insult to national sovereignty...

...and rightly so.

if you can't do your hosts the courtesy of a courtesy flag, please stay home.
