Courtesy Flag for San Blas ?
I am trying to confirm that there is no other courtesy flag to be flown in the San Blas other than the Panamanian flag.
Thanks

Re: Courtesy flag for San Blas?
I do not remember a Kuna courtesy flag, but it would be pretty cool and, I think, very well received by the locals if you were to procure a mola and fly it as one!

It can't hurt to fly a courtesy flag.

Re: Courtesy flag for San Blas?
man I love the internet.
They DO have one;
the lower is the Panamanian
the upper is the Kuna Yala.
And while it looks like a swastika its actually a symbol for "The four winds"
And the original WAS a mola!
; -)
And I don't remember it because they created it after we lived there.

Unless you want to run into trouble with the authorities.
Please note not all countries accept flying the optional local courtesy flag. E.g. Maroc does not allow you to fly West Saharan one. Etc.

Re: Courtesy flag for San Blas?
Kuna Yala does not consider itself part of Panama. It has independence from Panama, although it coordinates closely politically.

They seem to be an independent nation with protectorate status.

Re: Courtesy flag for San Blas?
The Kunas do consider themselves part of Panama, but an independent tribal state. They are active in Panama's political parties, and have representation in the legislature. They are semi-autonomous yes. As for flying courtesy flags. The only time they require any of the approved Kuna flags to be flown is during the month of February. This is because that is the month of their "Revolution Day" which falls on the 25th (and is preceded by several days of drunken celebration). Failure to fly the proper Kuna flag in honor of their "revolution" carries a "multa", which can be as high as $200. So beware...

Ben Franklins? More like Georges. Because technically the Kunas are not even allowed by their congreso to hold ben franklins. Doing so implies they've been dealing with narcos. Times have definitely changed, you're right about that.
