Hey Are your guys hip to this?

"FIRST DISTRICT
§ 80.105 Calais, ME to Cape Small, ME.
The 72 COLREGS shall apply on the harbors, bays, and inlets on the east coast of Maine from
International Bridge at Calais, ME to the southwesternmost extremity of Bald Head at Cape
Small."

Am I interpreting this right? That Colregs are to be used in basically everything North of Casco Bay? I always thought those waters would be considered Inland Waterways

A straight line from Calais to Cape Small passes over mostly inland lakes & rivers.
I can't imagine not using COLREGS S & E of this line,but.... news to me.

They're just saying that there are so many inlets, harbours and bays in that area that they aren't defining each Colregs line.

Since the CG amended the Inland Navigation Rules in 2012 (went into effect 2014), there's very little practical difference between Colregs and the Inland rules - as is required by Colregs.

And this is Maine. I probably have more fingers and toes than the number of people east of Portland who care where the CG draws its silly demarcation line

Could be. We have about 300 folks living on our island off mid coast Maine. Short answer: Yes. The CG can designate the boundaries between inland and Colreg. Most of the vessels are commercial, most of the bays are more in the way of inlets rather than really inland waterways, and all are subject to significant tides, currents and sea states. Welcome to the world of fog.

Which is why any serious sailor should keep up on the Notice to Mariners on a weekly basis. Buoys drift, navigation lights go out, and channels tend to collect a lot of hazards. Plus in the summer you can not see where your going in the mornings. And do not expect help from lobstermen. They rather run down a pleasure yacht. Sport to them.
