Clearing Out of Mexico ?

Hello all,

I am in la paz and heading back to the states. I have cleared out of mexico before via ensenada and then checked in in san diego. I know that drill.

Question,

Can I bypass ensenada and not clear out of mexico? I do not have my complete crew and list now. I am picking several up along the way. Some people here tell me to just not worry about it, or say i cleared out via radio with the port captain.

Advise pleases, I do not want issues when i return next fall.

Thanks
Chris

Getting uphill all the way to San Diego without a stop is a tough one. BEEN THERE DONE THAT, so BEST WISHES in getting all the way home safely. It's called the Baja Bash for a good reason. S.F. Bay is my home too.....i2f

Dear Chris,

Although I cannot speak directly as to Mexico....But generally it is NEVER a good idea not to follow the defined procedures... in Latin countries. Especially as you seek to return; too many consequences later. The crew list etc., I don't see as a problem as your Zarpe will show that only you are leaving. As to the new crew that you pick up, well, if it is after you depart/sign out, then your problems if any, will begin when you enter the USA and your crew doesn't have a stamped exit on their passports.

Notwithstanding the above...have a successful and safe trip.

Regards

Alan

When I came back into the US the US customs had no interest in my zarpe from Mexico. When I travelled through Central America each country want to see my zarpes from the last country--although I always wondered if they could tell anything from them and there was great formality about the paper trail. I am guessing that you could skip it and just check into the US, but I am a sucker for doing things by the book.

I think you could probably get away with it at the US end, it depends on the personality of the individual that you're dealing with. I think it will likely screw you up next time in Mexico.

I checked out of Cabo headed for Ensenada, weather window started to close so we just continued straight to San Diego. US did not care and in later visits to Cabo, no one in Mexico cared either.
