Clearing In to the Bahamas

We have done this three times in the past; into Walker's Cay, Marsh Harbour, and GTC, but each time middle of the day during the week.

This time there is a possibility that we wouldn't arrive at West End before 1800 hrs on a Friday. I can't find it now, but it seems I read the Bahamian customs and immigration offices close earlier than that.

When are these offices open ? Surely weekends are still open ? Or does it become more of a hastle or extra charge thing?

Thanks for any info from others !

INvest the dime and give them a call, either customs or any marina in Marsh Harbor. Don't rely on noonsite for up to the minute reports, things change, especially in the Bahamas.

There are no extra charges when clearing in in the Bahamas. You fee ($300 for most boats) covers everything.

This page, usually has their up to date information but appears to be down at the moment:

http:/www.bahamas.com/bahamas/boating-sailing

I second giving them a call to get up to date information. Remember, they only accept cash!

I usually leave Palm Beach early enough to clear the same afternoon, anchor out that night and head up the chain the next day.

Some of my Abacos photos and some anchor maps at:

www.bahamasmariner.com

Have a great cruise!

If customs and immigration do not come just keep your "Q" flag up and remember only the skipper is allowed ashore. They'll get to you sooner or later. I don't know whether you go to them or they come to you in West End. In any event it's nothing to worry about. I have yet to meet an unpleasant customs or immigration official in the Bahamas.
