Changing Hailing Port on a Coast Guard Documented Vessel

Hi,
I was wondering what the process is for changing the hailing port on a coast guard documented vessel. We did not change it when we purchased because we did not know when we would have the time/money to paint and change the location physically on the boat. Well, we've just spent a few weeks in the boat yard and are ready to order new letters for name and port, but I am not sure what I need to do with the coast guard to take care of this matter. Also, do we need to do anything with the state where we are planning to change the port to?
Thanks.

I just went through this. If the documentation is current, you need to fill out their change form and pay $85. or so.

Here's the link to the forms page USCG National Vessel Documentation Center, Forms Page

you can do this via fax with a credit card. IF you have any questions you can call them, they were very helpful.

To my knowledge, nothing needs to be done with the state..at least not my state.

Call the Coasties. They have a relatively new policy of trying to be as user friendly as possible....and its working.

I just did this, downloaded and printed the form from their site and mailed it in with the fee about 85 bucks if I remember right. I got the new documentation with new name in about 10 days I was pleasantly surprised to recieve it so soon.
